The next meeting of the Linux User Group in Mbarara.
Topics are:
Even though only 3 people who have attended our first meeting came again (most were students and on holidays now), we were about 15 people there. That was awsome.
Thomas brought us a short presentation (was meant to be 10 minutes) about what do we need to run Linux, what is the Kernel how does it affect our descission. After an hour everybody had satisfied his knowledge, knowing: “Nearly all modern computers can run Linux”.
We then had a Video Call to Kampala. Unfortunately we used Skype, a proprietary solution, but Jabber did not work for us. We will try to get it working for the next time. With a better sound system it might even be possible to get a remote presentation running. I did not expect the bandwith to allow this.
Due to the fact, that the time was running, my introduction to the command line was a bit short. I hope everybody picked at least the few things, that I told.
This time we had only one laptop to fix afterwards. But with some help of a manual (that I had just posted the same day) on the mailing list, we could solve it without problems.
Great fun for everybody.
For those who wanted to get a manual for an Ubuntu installation, where we unfortunately had not enough time for, please refer to: http://phynformatik.de/2010/06/16/ubuntu-10-04-installation/
