Well, after some last minute cancellations, we had a slight change of plan. Kyle gave us a demonstration of his Nokia N900 mobile computer/smartphone, the N900 which is the successor to the N810, is the most powerful smart phone available on the market today. It boasts some very impressive specs found here. http://maemo.nokia.com/features/ including a video out which allowed us to see the demo on the projector. The N900 runs Maemo which is a modified Debian OS, and such can run most Debian apps with little or no modification. This is allowing a very rapid rate of development for applications and should prove a very exciting platform to watch in the months to come.
Reinier also took time to install easypeasy OS on a notebook computer. Easypeasy is a modified ubuntu build with a screen layout and settings best suited to the new generation of notebook laptops on the market today. We look forward to a possible future review of this.
We'd like to welcome Kai to the usergroup as well this month. Kai has a problem which I am hoping the community can help with. He has a Tecra A10-1GV Laptop which he is running Ubuntu Karmic 9.10 on. unfortunately the on-board 3G modem is proving a little troublesome to get working. Anyone who has a similar modem but has been successful would be most appreciative to hear from you.
Next month brings the launch of the Makarere Linux Chapter, I look forward to seeing more of you at the event so we can properly welcome them into the Linux community fold. We will as always detail the programme closer to the time but ideas as always welcome.
Well thats all for now. See you in 4 weeks.
